Redes DVD release by Naxos
The film Redes ("Nets"), featuring one of Silvestre Revueltas's greatest scores, will be released as a DVD on Naxos on May 13. Angel Gil-Ordóñez leads the PostClassical Ensemble in the premiere recording of the film music.

Martin Scorsese writes: "A very special film...[Paul] Strand brought his camera eye...[Fred] Zinnemann brought his tremendous sensitivity to actors...and with his score Revueltas gave the film a terrific majesty and grandeur."

Florida Grand Opera presents
The Passenger by Mieczyslaw Weinberg
From April 2 to April 9, the Florida Grand Opera gives five performances of Mieczyslaw Weinberg's "The Passenger" in the 2010 Bregenz Festival production directed by David Pountney. Steven Mercurio conducts. The production was most recently staged by Michigan Opera Theatre in November 2015.

Jerome Kitzke at 60 -- Two evenings
presented by Tribeca New Music
American Maverick Jerome Kitzke's 60th birthday are celebrated in two nights of concerts at NYC's Dimenna Center, Nov. 13-14, presented by Tribeca New Music. Kitzke's compelling compositional voice will be heard in 12 works telling urgent stories.

Derek Bermel's "Migration Series"
scores in Seattle
"Migration Series," a one-of-a-kind work for jazz band and orchestra, was performed by the Seattle Symphony with the Roosevelt High School Jazz Band in the symphony's Sonic Evolution concert on Oct. 29.

Thomas May hailed "the quality of Bermel’s musical language: engaging, original, with something genuine to say" in this work inspired by paintings by Jacob Lawrence.

Latin Grammy nomination for
Miguel del Aguila's Concierto en Tango
Miguel del Aguila's cello concerto Concierto en Tango has been nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition. The concerto was premiered in May 2014 by cellist Roman Mekinulov with the Buffalo Philharmonic conducted by JoAnn Falletta, and released by the Phil. on their CD "Built for Buffalo".

Upcoming performances include those by the Edmonton Symphony, Albany Symphony, Virginia Symphony, and the Music in the Mountains festival. Audio clips here.

On Being
In an interview with On Being's Krista Tippett, Mohammed Fairouz digs deep into poetry and the language of statecraft that animate his Deutsche Grammophon release Follow, Poet.

The recording was called "captivating" by the New York Times and "glorious" by Opera News.
